Go to this link about Advertising and watch a collection of adverts in English.
Choose TWO adverts from this link or any other advert in English and analyse them.
Follow these guidelines:
1. What is being advertised and what is specifically highlighted about the product?
2. Who is the advert aimed at? (audience)
3. Slogan (the language of advertising)
4. Images (description and technical effects)
5. Lines of appeal and attention-getting hooks (happy families, rich lifestyles, successful love, famous people, beautiful men and women, sex, humor...)
This is an example written by a classmate from last year:
IT RARELY STOPS
It's an advert against gender violence. What has struck me most is to see how the woman figuratively tries to cover up the blows with make-up. That is what people who suffer abuse try to do, "cover" the abuse of their abusers because they think they are going to change.
I believe that this should no longer happen, because we are free and owners of our destiny and we do not have to endure this type of abuse. Let's denounce it. The slogan is 'It's rarely stops' that means that there are a lot of women suffering gender violence in silence. This advert goes mostly for women but also for men.

ResponderEliminarI have chosen the advert that is aimed at racism. It advertise a very important thing nowadays that is racism. Nowadays most people think that racism doesn't exist, but in terms of politic and society, persons wich are from other countries have less oportunities to have a good life. The slogan that they try to make us understand is “No To Racism”. What has struck me most is all the famous people that appear in the advert, because they are not from Spain, and I think it means that we love them so much because they're famous, but if we see a poor foreign person most people doesn't look at them. It's very exciting to see how famous people contribute to the total elimination of racism. Is interesting how this advert captain my attention. Obviously the hook of the advert is all famous people that are in it, like Messi, Cristiano...

Red Bull is advert and this is so exiting because a man is parachuted from space.The protagonist of the advert is Felix Baumgartner and the promoter is Red Bull.
In this advert they got three records and a lot of publicity around the world.In the advert I see how an aerostatic balloon goes up to reach thespace where a man throws himselft in parachute.The appeal and attention getting hooks is the curiosity to see what happens and how it is done.

He gives money to a child, he gives food to a dog and he helps an old woman to carry a food cart. TV has to put more adverts like that because the people of the world have to help each other.

This advert talk about the racism. This theme is very important because nowadays there are lot of it. This advert is make by the European competition of football, the Champions League. It is make by several players of the competition. They make this advert because they are famous, and all the people want to be like they. So this types of adverts are very important.

So that is why Calvo makes this advertisment, showing you that mothers have the capacity to know what type of tuna is better to buy.
I think it is a little bit machist because as a women buy the tuna, a man can do it as well, and no only mothers have ''superpowers''.

I've chosen UNSUNG HERO. It doesn`t ad some products in special, but the most important of this ad is to promote the solidarity. Also it shows the poverty of the world and in this ad appear one man who is helping people and giving the best of himself to tha kind of people who need it. I think, this ad is for all people because it gives an important lesson for us. Specially, I would recommend this ad to this people who is selfish or only think in themselves.

Unsung helped an old woman buying some bananas because she was so poor and she couldn't buy it. But I think the most important fact of this ad is that thanks of the money of Unsung a pretty girl has been able to go to school. That`s great!!

SAY NO TO RACISM:
ResponderEliminarIt is an announcement against racism. Nobody has to be ashamed to be the way they are, just because they are different from others. Each person comes from a different country, with different cultures and although it is a bit strange to see people different from us, we have to respect them and not be racist and discriminate against these people.
I think that people who are racist should respect different cultures because others are respecting theirs, and it does not matter if we are people of different color or different race, the important thing is that we are all people and we all must be respected as we also all have to respect. This announcement is directed to all that person who judges people by their race.
UNSUNG HERO:
It is an advertisement that highlights the help towards others. I loved how the man helps every person who can, without receiving anything in return. This man helps all people who need a little help, but what I like most about the video is how the man helps the girl every day with a little money and after a few days the girl can afford to go to school to receive education like the rest of the children.
I think that more people like this are needed in the world, because when someone really needs help, very few people are offered and there are many people who unfortunately need the help of the most favored people, with a little of money, or food or how each one can afford to help the different people in need. The man says that by giving a little help every day to people nothing is going to change, and that you will feel very excited and your happiness will increase when you see that you help people of your own free will.

This advertisement tries to show how important is to value what we have and be happy sharing things with the people around you, to be honest and to help everyone that need it. The ad is directed to everybody in the world. The slogan of this advertisement is ``UNSUNG HERO´´ that means that the people who do this like the man who appear in the ad are the true heroes of the world, and they are unknown.
It use different scenes to show us the way of how can we help to the people, scenes like, a dog that sit down next to the man when he is eating and the man gives the food to the dog; an elderly woman with a shopping cart who needs help to get it on the sidewalk and the man helps her; a mother and a daughter who are poor and are asking for money in the street so that the girl could attend a school…
One thing that get the attention of the audience is when it says that the man has few economic resources but he still got the poor girl could enter in the school, he got the company of a dog as a pet, the affection of an old woman to whom he left food every day ... he received happiness doing this, something that can not be bought with money.

This advertisement shows to the parents that is very important the education that children receive from them, because in the future they will behave like what they have learned. The slogan of this ad is ``CHILDREN SEE, CHILDREN DO´´ so the influence that parents and adults make should be positive for the children.
It use scenes of parents acting inappropriately and their young children next to them doing exactly the same thing they do. They are scenes like smoking, a father hitting the mother and the child acting in the same way ...
Something that impacts in the ad is how it really shows that how influences the values that parents and family teach at home.

ResponderEliminarIn this ad, it is said that life is too short to risk being mistaken. The ad is aimed at all those people who did not take risks or those who need an impulse to do so. The slogan of this announcement is After all, no regrets. In the scenes people appear doing the things that they want like for example, changing gender, being a rock singer, etc. The person speaking in the ad speaks directly to the viewer, which could be said to be a hook to notice.
They are English but they are fine
It announces some cookies that are called M`s vities. The ad points to all English people who like cookies. The slogan of this announcement is They are English but they are fine. Many people will appear doing basic things like walking on the street, asking for a taxi, etc. I think this ad has many hooks, for example in the advertisement beautiful girls come out, the prince of that country also appears, teenagers playing football and finally a happy family eating the cookies that are advertised.

This advert shows us a project made and organized by Red Bull, about the highest jump ever.
We can see that the man who jumped was very brave, because it is something that not everybody can do.
This advert has been around the world because it is a project important and amazing for all people.

4 in the video we can see that the images give us the feeling that these people live in a poor environment, with few resources

Embrace Life Always wear your sit belt
ResponderEliminarThis advert try to make people realize how important is the sit belt in a car, because in some cases, just a simple fact as put on your sit belt could safe your life. What really has shocked me from the advert is how the wife and daughter of the protagonist have “saved” his life. This advert is aimed at all type of public.
The slogan of the advert is ‘Embrace life – Always wear your sit bealt’.
You can appreciate that this video must has been recorded inside a house, to represent like a hall of a normal house. At first, it looks like if the characters were playing a game, but throughout the video progresses you can expect the end. The most impressive change happens when the man got distracted and the car “crashed”, that is when the other two characters act as a sit bealt.
This advert tries to get to the feelings with a happy family that could have lost his dad.
In my opinion, this types of adverts are very important, because working together, we can make people aware of this actual problem that we have to solved.

*This advert doesn’t show a product or something to be sold, this advert talks about something that is very important nowadays, education. The advert has said a very interesting thing that is totally true, it said that the problems of nowadays’ education are us, the people that are enjoying or have enjoyed it. I think this advert is not aimed at children, if not at teenagers and adults.
*The slogan of this advert is ‘Lets redu’, what I understand as a way to rebuild, to make education again, and this time, better.
*In the video is used a childish way to explain the things related to education, because if you think on that, the people who benefits or harms whatever we do with education, are children.
*This advert also tries to get to the feelings, specially of the adult people who have lived all of that by themselves.
*Under my point of view, we should participate with this association, because the future of our children could be in dangerous.

ResponderEliminarI have choosen this advert because I think all people have to be treated equally and also they have to have liberty, rights and education. It doesn´t matter the religion or the skin color of each person.
In this advert appear celebrities and football players who are against racism. I see very well that well-known people make this type of videos so that the issue of racism has more and more awareness worldwide.

In this advert is talk about the woman violence. I think the woman violence is the case more trated in Spain. Both women and men are battered every days. There are a lot of women suffering gender violence in silence. Let's denounce it. I think that this situation must change.

This advert promotes an american mobile phone and, of course, who could present it better than Justin Bieber so it would appeal to people that want to buy a phone? Appart from the fact that this celebrity is introducing the product, the point of an advert is to convince the consumer they want to buy the product, so in my opinion itwas also a good and funny idea that it described the evolution of celebratrion with people having fun and dancing. It wants you to think that there are unlimited ways to create new moves. So that is how the product is known, not with an slogan but with #UnlimitedMoves.

ResponderEliminarIt's about some soccer players who say no to racism. I believe that the announcement is for everyone but for athletes in particular. The ad slogan is a simple phrase that is not racism. The images of the video are small fragments of videos where the faces of soccer players appear saying no to racism. Draws attention to all football players gathered from different races trying to raise awareness that we are all equal.

Specifically, this announcement does not have a dialogue but the computer tells Felix data such as the speed that will reach the height, risks... "Say no to racism"
ResponderEliminarThe announcement wants to deliver an anti-racism announcement about the audience that sees it , be it for any age , to raise awareness . It implies that we should all think the same on this issue , regardless of our race.
The slogan of the ad is "SAY NO TO RACISM", a short phrase with a great meaning that makes the viewer rethink that he can choose for himself between two paths: the good, which is not to accept racism as a way to life , and the bad , which would be to choose the path towards racism.
In this ad appear different people (fotball players) all from different races , repeating the same phase , the ad slogan. With this announcement I understand that what it wants to express is that in the 21st century there should not be this , and that there would not even be this announcement is there was not so much racism today. So that as soon as we realize that there really is no difference between the races more than physical , and therefore insignificant , before will end much of the hatred that the human professes senseless.

ResponderEliminarIn this advert we can see that the highlighted product is a new Pokémon Videogame which was broadcast on 26 February 2016.
This Pokémon advert is aimed to all agges people, especially to people who like Pokémon. Some people say that Pokémon is only for children, but in Pokémon's fans (including me) opinion this is not true because all agges people can enjoy this games and there are also Pokémon tournaments for adults.
The slogan of The Pokémon Company is "Gotta catch em' all", this refers that in all Pokémon videogames saga the main mission you need to do is catch all of the Pokémon species in the game.
We notice that in this advert The Pokémon Company try to explain to us how Pokémon games have evolved since the release of the first videogame in 1996 in Japan showing images and videos of people playing all of the different videogames and at the end of the advert they advertise the new videogame called Pokémon Sun and the other version Pokémon Moon.
They get our attention showing us nostalgic scenes of all the videogames and people playing and enjoying them, but also they show pictures of the new game and Junich Masuda and Tsunekazu Ishihara (the creator of The Pokémon Company) are in the advert.

This advert is aimed to people who are interest in music, especifically in drums.
"I'd Hit That" is the slogan of the advert that means that people who like playing drums will hit this drums because they are great.
In this advert they try to get our attention with the appereance of Brendon Urie (Panic!At The Disco vocal) playing this drums.

It’s an advert that promotes a life insurance. What more is highlighted in the advert is the kindness of the persons and like helping the others gives you the satisfaction and happiness that don’t give you the money. The advert is aimed to everybody , specially those persons who are a little bit more sensitive and it is the reason why this advertisement appeals them. The slogan that they use appears at the end of the video and it is "believe in good". In the video we can see the man helping a woman, giving money to a poor family in order that her daughter could go to the school, feeding a dog, it gives his site in the train, etc... We can see too the people thinking that it wastes his time with all these actions because they don’t believe that it could change something, however, he created a difference slowly, for example when the gril gets goes to the school. This advert get people’s attention because it is really beautiful and very emotive. I loved it when I watched it because i thought it have got a deep meaning.

It is an advert against racism. The advert shows this idea appearing many persons of different nationalities. This advert is aimed to everybody because everyone should respect everyone. We can hear only a phrase during the video, the slogan, it is "not to racism". The phrase is repeated by all the persons who appear and they say that in different languages. The advert tries to appeal people with famous persons like Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos. They are football players.

The advert that I talked before is completly diferent to this one. I´d choosen it because it´s a famouse fragance Company who had a lot of power in their hands and, instead of used it for teach our society, they used it in a dangerous way.
In this advert we can observe a man, I could say he enter in in the silly and out of reach standars of beauty, Paco Rabanne Company didn´t choose a man without marked abs or darker skin color but, I don´t want to focus in the type of person they choose because it really doesn´t matter. Yes, in ads we usually watch strong and "role model" guy but the problema is in us if we believe that that´s the perfect and beautiful "standart men".
What´s wrong with this advert is when he started to take off his clothes. There are woman hidden looking at him and they look like if they were dying everytime he made a move. Are you kidding me?
People really believe that woman are like that?
But, the worst part of all is the end, when he pour the fragance in his naked body which make those girls faint.
It´s just a body. Everybody have an awesome one with all their perfect imperfections.
Of course, you have to take care of it but, you can´t define someone just because of his physic, sexuality or nationality.
Define someone by are their words, actions, feelings and heart.
This advert makes the viewer think that woman will go running after him just for a fragance.
You can buy a product, not a person.
